Position: Sample Sewer (part time)

We’re seeking an experienced and fast sample sewer to help us create fit samples, finished garment samples, and step-outs for our publications and patterns.

We're Colette Media, and our mission is to revive the art of sewing. We do that through a line of beautiful home sewing patterns, books, and Seamwork Magazine. We aim to educate and inspire people to make their own clothing.

Responsibilities:

We're looking for an expert sample sewer to help us create beautiful photo-ready garments and fit samples.

Unlike in most sewing jobs, we do more than produce goods for sale. We teach and inspire others to learn to sew, and you will be contributing directly to that goal while working directly with an enthusiastic, creative, caring group of people.

  • Create fit samples and attend fittings, helping us iterate and improve patterns.
  • Create beautiful finished sample garments for use in product and editorial photo shoots.
  • Work with our creative teams to craft step-outs and samples for educational content, such as articles and videos.
  • Provide input on pattern changes, adjustments, order of operation, and construction techniques.
Who we're looking for:

We are looking for someone with the following skills:

  • Experienced sewist with strong knowledge of garment construction techniques.
  • Experience with industrial sewing
  • Ability to sew garments quickly.
  • Basic understanding of pattern making is helpful.
  • Knowledge of home sewing techniques is helpful.
Location:

We are located in inner NE Portland, Oregon. Our studio is located in a beautiful century-old renovated factory building with plenty of natural light, space, and a central location with many options for food, drinks, and coffee.

Position: Community Manager (part time)

Help build and lead a community of creative, passionate women who sew their own clothing. In this position, you’ll develop and expand our online forum, creating events and initiatives to establish a sense of comradery. You’ll also act as the voice of our members within the team, helping us address customer feedback and improve everything we do. This is a part-time position of approximately 20 hours per week to start.

We help inspire their creativity through Seamwork, a membership website that helps members design, sew, and share their own wardrobes.

Responsibilities

As our Community Manager, you will bring the collective voice of our members alive within our team. You’ll build up our online community, answer customer service questions, and come up with new ideas for expanding community features on the Seamwork website.

  • Create and build bonds between our team and our members.
  • Resolve problems quickly and efficiently for our members.
  • Grow the community forum through online events, challenges, intitiatives, and discussions.
The Mission

In the first six months of this position, your mission will be to:

  • Grow our community forum to 1,000 active users.
  • Design and plan 2 online events.
  • Create an organized process for facilitating staff participation every week.
Who We're looking for

We are looking for someone with the following skills and qualification:

  • Intermediate or higher sewing skills.
  • Ability to use basic spreadsheet.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
